Can you control the past?

We have all heard the comment or perhaps said ourselves, “I wish I could turn back the hands of time.”  Have you ever thought how this could be done with a digital clock?  Not as simple as just turning back the hands. We must now press the right buttons.  Progress and time seem to forever march on and on and on into the future.  However, what if we could get progress to march backwards?  What if we could turn back the hands of time?  Imagine all the events that it would be possible to alter.  Would we be smart enough to prevent disasters?  For instance, what if we could go back to the beginning of WW II?  Would we be able to find a way to stop Hitler and the Holocaust?  What if we could go back to the assassination of Julius Caesar?  Would you grab him by the toga and warn him that his best friend was going to kill him?  Do you think he would believe you?  If there were a way to turn the clock back, who would have the power to do so?  Can you imagine everyone running back into history to change things?  Who would decide what to change?

But let us imagine just for today, that you had the power to turn your clock back.  What time would you turn it back to?  Where would you turn it back to?  Then what would you do?  What would you use your power to change or to do differently?  Would you try to save the world or simply undo some stupid things that you personally did?  Sadly, we all seem to forget that while we can not take back any actions or words that hurt others in the past, we can make amends for them today.

Questions for Reflection:

What if you made a list of things that you would like to change in the past and started today to make amends for those things? Could you pick one thing you would like to make amends for each week and work on it?  How would you feel?  How would this change your life? You really do control your own destiny.

Here is another thought about time. We all all familiar with the idea of Time Machines and the Paradox that Time Travel presents. How about simply turning the hands of time back on you clock? My blog from the past deals with what might happen if we had the power to do so.

There’s nothing I would change, for better or for worse. What about you?! 😏

Where would I begin Jane? My list would be long. I would start with my parents. Politicians that were elected. People that were assassinated. People who died prematurely. Choices I made about education, life, marriage. Those are just a start. John

😏💕 I’m with you on the politicians, assassinations, and people who’ve died too early, including my parents.

Jane, Went to a funeral today. She was the wife of a good friend. She was 69 and died in bed with him. She told him at 11 PM that she wanted to read a while and then would go to sleep. He woke up to hear her breathing very raspy. He remembered it was about 2 AM. When he could not wake her, he called 911. The ambulance came and decided to helicopter her up to Phoenix. She was in a coma for four days and never woke up. She was a very beautiful person. A teacher, caregiver and very active in her church to help others. She was a truly loving person. The funeral was very moving. They were married 42 years. John

I’m so sorry to hear this. My brother lost his wife last April, 69, married 43 years, 4 kids, 5 grandkids. She literally dropped dead from a blood clot while my brother was out walking the dog. On Christmas a friend of ours lost his wife in circumstances almost exactly the same as your friends. It’s always heartbreaking to lose people we care about, and it happens regularly at our age. It’s part of the circle of life, and it hurts the most when we’ve had the privilege of experiencing that closeness with others. When you asked the question of what you would change, I assumed you meant decisions we made that we would make differently if you could have a do-over.

Hi Jane, sounds like you have had your share of grieving as well for people you cared about. I keep thinking 69 too damn young. But I guess any age is too damn young. Yes, I meant things and decisions I would change if I could. John
