Getting Trump and his Senate sycophants out of office is only the first step in making America the country it needs to be. The following is an agenda that I think would help to exceed the dreams of our founders and would meet the needs of citizens who want to live in a country characterized by true equality, true freedom, and true justice. These items should be our “Second” priority after getting Trump out of office.
- Universal day care for all working parents
- Develop a National Agency Against Racism and Sexism
- Low cost Internet for all citizens
- Term Limits for all National political offices – 2 six-year terms maximum. No holding any public office for ten years after
- Expand Affordable Care Act to insure healthcare for all citizens
- Major Education Changes – develop a 21st century education system (see my blog on this subject)
- Infrastructure Plan (Biden Plan a Start)
- Start Closing Military Bases overseas
- Major Campaign Funding Reform
- Repeal Citizens United
- Abolish Lobbying
- Limit Executive Privilege and Executive Orders
- Limit for Supreme Court Tenure to 15 years
- Restore fair representation by eliminating gerrymandering
- Abolish the electoral college
- Reform corporate law to restore the balance of power between workers and management.
- Adopt a plan for immigration based on care and compassion for all human beings
- Reform the criminal justice and legal system
- Ensure that LGBTQ citizens have the same rights as all other citizens in the USA
- Reform tax law so that it is equitable and fair
- Work international to establish a global mandate for a stable climate that will include efforts on climate restoration, climate mitigation and environmental sustainability

Thank you John for a very reasonable agenda for any country to follow to ensure equity and justice for all. Our Green Party here has a similar agenda but very little chance of forming government at this point. But I keep dreaming, hoping and working towards that.

Thank you Wayne. I clearly forgot that to include a bolder Green Plan for the environment although that is supposed to be part of Biden’s plan. I think it needs to be spelled out though. Good luck with your efforts Wayne. Not sure too many people are going to support this agenda either. John

I do and should. I give permission to anyone to do so. Let me know if you do not find it. Sometimes these sites can be quirky.

I feel your suggestions for straightening out the present chaos of the U.S. Government should passed completely. Unfortunately, the present administration has shown the underbelly of our country to be a complete antithesis to normalcy, equitable governing, and a country standing on democratic principles. So there needs to be level of getting our country’s out of control garage in order, while we renovate the foundation and upper floors of our country.

Dear Cherune, I strongly agree with you. I think we need to have a vision though and then get support from the majority around a bold vision. I doubt whether the mainstream Dems or the Republicans are going to want to push any of my agenda. John

It would be a stretch for this country but I believe these things are long overdue.

Can’t argue with any of that. Other things I’d go further with, but it’s not my country. In Australia I’m a social Democrat……centre right fiscally, centre left socially. Which makes me a dangerous communist for many Americans, I understand. The US has a centre-right party, the Democrats, and a right wing party, the Trumplicans. Hard to change that, I suspect?

Funny Vic, your terms. I always say that I am fiscally conservative and socially liberal. I guess we are both in the same spot. I also feel misunderstood by opposing sides who do not seem to think that you can be both conservative and liberal. I do use the term liberal loosely. I think I prefer your “center left socially” since, I never really trust liberals. Neo-liberals are anathema to my way of thinking and too often, I find liberals these days not willing to stand up and fight or at best endorsing half the pie. I sometimes tell people that I am a radical but they usually do not know what I mean and it just draws a blank look. The USA has moved too far to the right and although the balance was never really a progressive agenda, it was better than what we have under Trump. However, in many ways, I think the lack of a truly progressive agenda was only delaying the inevitable collapse of American dominance in economics and world affairs. Not all bad but underlying this collapse is the inevitable collapse of too many of our internal systems and infrastructure. I have written about many of this old legacy systems that are far beyond the point of salvation and must have radical change. Thanks for taking the time to comment Vic. Hope things are going well with you. John

Dr Persico – What a list! I have just the following thoughts:
Universal daycare: How would we prevent this from becoming just an extension of our current expensive and ineffective public schools? (reference you other point below)
National Agency Against Racism and Sexism: What would they do?
Term Limits: If people are involved in politics as much as they should be term limits wouldn’t be needed, if people continue to be laissez-faire term limits don’t matter.
ACA is health insurance, and insurance does not equal care it creates bureaucracy and rationing.
Major Education Changes: I agree (but I’m for vouchers and private schools as the change agent)
Start Closing Military Bases overseas: Again agreement, but that sounds awful Trump-like of you
Limit Exec. Orders: Again we agree, but legislatures will just punt and give it right back, that’s how we wound up here in the first place.
Eliminate gerrymandering: Sounds good, but this is impossible. Whoever draws the line has a bias, it’s called implicit bias and we all have it.
Abolish Electoral College: This I couldn’t disagree with this more, in fact we should reverse the 17th Amendment as well to really restore the power to LOCAL government.
Reform Criminal and Justice System: Agreed, just don’t decriminalize crime, I’m all for offering more restorative services to those incarcerated. I’ve met too many victims of “victimless crimes” to change too much to a supervised release model but agree improvements are needed.
Reform Tax Law so it’s equitable and fair: Flat Tax it is!
Global Climate Initiative: At least you acknowledge the US isn’t the supreme baddie here and other countries (China and India perhaps) have a long way to go just to catch up to the US.
The overarching question of “How do we pay for all of this” persists, but I suppose it’s just some variation of tax the rich – am I right?
I apologize for the lengthy comment (I try to keep comments short – it’s your blog), but there’s a ton to unpack here.
