Sex, Politics and War

I should have written something new in honor of International Women’s Day but I did not think far enough ahead. I wrote this piece about 1 1/2 years ago and I talk about the war on Women’s Reproductive Rights and Gender choices for all people. I think given the politics going on in the USA, that this blog is still appropriate. It is not upbeat and celebratory. Women have come a long way in the USA since the signing of the constitution but there is a long way for them to go to obtain the rights and respect that men get. As long as the rates of Domestic Violence and Rape are as high as they are in the USA, women cannot live the lives that they deserve. IMHO.

Aging Capriciously

sex-and-power978-0-8223-6367-5_prThere is a war on sex by politicians.  There has always been a war on sex by politicians.  It is the longest running war in the history of the world.  It is not a gender war but a political war.  The goal of political warfare is to alter an opponent’s opinions and actions in favor of the state’s interests without utilizing military power.  Such warfare has been waged by the state against sex since the dawn of humanity.

In the USA, we have had political wars on race, drugs, poverty, crime, and terror.  None of these wars were officially declared as military wars.  Each of these wars were unofficially declared by the US government.   Not one of these wars has ever officially ended.  The war on sex has never been acknowledged either officially or unofficially.  It has never ended either.

In our office, John, I’m the only man. Yesterday, I was informed by one of our Administrative Professionals who shan’t be called a secretary that it was International Women’s Day and was encouraged by her to do something to celebrate it. I regularly spring for Starbucks, but didn’t think that would be special enough, therefore. The one who encouraged me is on a diet, so I figured food was out too. Flowers should be from significant others, I thought. So after lunch, I brought in large helium filled balloons that they sell at the grocery store for children’s birthday parties; a butterfly for our office manager, a mermaid for our other Administrative Professional, and a unicorn for my original encourager. The balloons were a big hit. When I asked when was International Men’s Day, everybody laughed! 😇

That was a great idea Majik. Thinking out of the box as they say. Maybe we should start a IMD. Many women would say that “it was always Men’s day.” Some truth to that. John

After I wrote this comment, I googled International Men’s Day and found that there is one. It’s always on November 19th. My colleagues promised to bring me breakfast burritos to celebrate! https://www.internationalmensday.info/

Funny, Maybe we could just have a National Men’s Day. Drive pickup trucks, watch football and drink lite beer. 🙂 I do have a pickup truck but don’t watch sports and definitely do not drink lite beer. John

          Nice thoughts:

          I swear to you
That I will tell the truth
When the whole world lies to you
I’ll be steady through and through
          I swear to you
          That I’ll keep you awake
          When it’s easier to sleep
Cause you feel it all so deep

John, the thing that I didn’t like about this re-posted International Women’s Day post was not what you’ve written here, although I disagree with some of it, but, rather, that it was too small for something so wonderful and beautiful a creation that we call “Woman.” I found something that I wrote last year about a hero of mine who just happens to be one such person of beauty. She’s no longer here with us. She’s now with her possibly imaginary Friend. But while she was here, BOY how she shined . . . how this sweet soul of a human being who called herself “Nightbirde” surely DID SHINE! https://thehappynarcissist.com/2022/06/22/youre-brave/

Thanks Majik, Love to hear what you disagree with. Maybe when we get together. I can always learn. I have read and studied a great deal of feminist literature and had many feminist friends. Nevertheless, it was not part of my background. Strong sexist Italian father who believed in the old saw about a women’s place being in the kitchen. Anyway. I will read your blog. Appreciate you sending me the link.

Thank you, John. I just think that there is more to womanhood than sex, abortion, and domestic violence, which, in fact, are not issues exclusive to women anyway. But that’s what I meant by my “too small” observation about your post. Women and men, for that matter, even in our “fallen” state are the best images of a wonderful and loving Creator that there are in the known universe . . . and I just wish that we could celebrate that more. https://youtu.be/mX_Mb-jsb7c

Nice song. Sad ending that she did pass away. What is the saying “The good die young.” Not always true but too often true. She was quite an artist and person.
